Reporting to the Department Manager, the Technical Designer will work closely with customers as well as members of the project management and manufacturing teams. The Technical Designer serves as a link between these groups using strong writing, design and communication skills to develop projects from ideation to completion. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and a solid understanding of the entire experiential industry; from agency interaction and project development to construction, logistics and installation. The Technical Designer will produce and oversee the production of design decks, renderings, 3D models, construction drawings and files for CNC machine operation on all assigned projects. The Technical Designer will manage the schedule, workflow and timelines for all assigned projects


  • Under the direction of the Department Manager and Senior Technical Designer, generate design concepts and warranties based on the scope of the new business and the initial client request

  • Develop design-focused pitch decks to present both internally and externally

  • Collaborate and further develop pre-established client design (mood boards, mockups, sketches, etc.)

  • Manage all drafting/design workflows and project deadlines

  • Produce renderings for client needs as well as effective technical drawing sets for shop fabrication

  • Manage the delivery of design documents, construction drawings and all other specific materials within pre-established deadlines

  • Support the Department Manager and all other project team members in the design and fabrication process throughout the construction schedule

  • Produce files for CNC machine operation

  • Support overall department goals as established by the Department Manager

  • Support and refine department protocols and department standards for internal and client presentations

  • Support overall business objectives, as defined by the company


  • Attend weekly departmental meetings and Project Pass-Off and Kick-Off meetings

  • Help maintain the organization of shared files according to service guidelines

  • Original materials and finishes as defined by the scope of an assigned project

  • Participate in the creation and updating of standardized models for internal and external use

  • Participate and contribute to department and company culture objectives

  • Support department managers and senior executives in growing the team and strengthening support staff


  • Working knowledge of SketchUp, Rhino 3D, AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Professional experience in creating 3D designs, renderings and mechanical renderings

  • Professional experience in communicating with a client on behalf of a company and representing it as such

  • Ability to decipher a client’s specific needs and categorically understand priorities, both internal and external

  • Ability to think creatively about a variety of design and manufacturing challenges

  • Ability to work independently, manage project timelines and own bandwidth and communicate these realities to management

  • Work experience in technical drawings and rendering (furniture, scenic fab, architecture, etc.)

  • Experience working with various materials and manufacturing techniques (wood, metal/welding, hardware, plastics, laminates, fabrics/textiles)

  • Must be able to provide written reports and feedback

  • Must be organized, thorough and team oriented

  • Must be flexible and adaptable to constant change

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
