Productivity Tools for Autodesk Revit

One of the hot topics last year was the famous AEC industry open letter to Autodesk criticizing the lack of improvements in the latest versions of their software. In response to the inability to cover all user needs, many technology companies are emerging in the AEC industry to fill these gaps. One is taking a different and unprecedented journey by giving away some of the best Revit add-ins on the market for free

Traditionally, Autodesk developers have filled these gaps with expensive products that most SMBs couldn’t afford. Few great alternatives were available until 2017, when DiRoots arrived to disrupt the market by developing outstanding free supplements for one of Autodesk’s most popular products.

Over the past three years, digital technology company DiRoots has developed and released eight Autodesk Revit add-ins. Each can offer significant time savings over traditional workflows that rely on native Revit functionality. These tools have become essential for many Revit users.

While all of the free DiRoots tools available are intended for Autodesk Revit, their development scope is not limited to that. They provide other custom software solutions, such as plugins for Bentley and Bricsys products, cross-platform applications, custom scripts, proof of concept and research and development (R&D) on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. ), such as machine learning and deep learning.

Become more productive

These Revit plugins cover some of the real needs of all Revit users, helping them to perform their daily tasks faster and more efficiently.

All plugins developed by DiRoots are extremely easy to use and have a pleasant user interface (UI), providing a seamless user experience (UX). The success of add-ins, both in terms of functionality and front-end design, is based on extensive market research and user input at all stages of development.

Starting in chronological order, here are the tools they have at their disposal after three years of development.

It is the ultimate model data management tool. SheetLink allows users to export model data to Excel or Google Sheets, edit it in a more manageable way, and re-import it to update the model. It enables seamless collaboration between different team members, including non-Revit users. SheetLink has been considered by many to be the best tool of its kind.

This Revit add-in always receives regular updates and improvements. In February 2021, a new improved version will bring unique new features, updated user interface and improved user experience.

It is designed to assist the user in the management of Revit families and subprojects within a project. The power of this tool lies in three main functionalities: export families in an organized way to specific folders and subfolders (without backup files); quickly rename Revit families according to BIM standards (eg BS 8541-1); and assign worksets to Revit elements by categories or by defining custom rules.

A filter

It is a plugin to quickly find Revit families in the model. Its most basic feature is the ability to filter by categories and by parameter name / value.

For more advanced users, it allows them to create complex rules and rule sets to refine filtered model elements and even find model elements contained in zones, masses, rooms, spaces, and zones.

OneFilter can also colorize model elements based on parameter values and create section boxes around them. It is perhaps the most advanced filter for Revit.

Pro Sheets

This is an add-in for batch exporting views / sheets to PDF, DWG, DGN, DWF, NWC, IFC and images (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, etc.) using names custom files. File names can be created using sheet settings, project information settings, and even static custom fields. These allow users to effortlessly generate BIM compliant project deliverables.

It takes a long time to perform these tasks manually, which is why ProSheets has become one of the most popular plugins of its kind.

It was developed to import Excel tables into Revit as callout, schedule, or drawing views. TableGen allows users to import non-BIM data into Revit while retaining their Excel formatting (e.g. fonts, alignments, borders, images, graphics, etc.).

It allows users to batch create sheets and views, place views on sheets based on a predefined template, and easily manage revisions. SheetGen and ProSheets together form the ultimate drawing production tool set. They tackle one of the most repetitive and time consuming workflows in Revit. The popularity of SheetGen is skyrocketing among Revit users.

A simple but very handy add-in for quickly renumbering Revit instance parameters using a prefix, suffix, and multiplier (either manually or by following a path / detail line).

It is designed to manage Revit settings in project and home environments. It allows users to create and delete settings, modify existing settings, export / import settings to / from Excel files and Shared settings. All in a more user-friendly and efficient way.

What to expect in 2021

In 2021, DiRoots will stick to its values and mission. Jose said, “We have now developed eight multidisciplinary applications to optimize several tedious workflows for Revit users, such as data management and drawing production. We will continue to update these Revit add-ins and make them the best of their kind. We also have other projects and we will release new tools for different products like AutoCAD, Navisworks and BriscCAD.

DiRoots has other plans in the roadmap though they haven’t been disclosed.

Due to DiRoots contributions to many companies, they have been considered the first true “socio-technological disruptor” in the AEC industry.
