Mechanical Design Engineer – Cobalt Boats

This role will focus on creating innovative designs that meet the functional needs of our customers and contribute to the growth of the business. This is an on-site post in Neodesha, KS.

Essential tasks and responsibilities:

  • Participate in all phases of new product development.
  • Design prototype parts and assemblies using 3D CAD (AutoCAD / NX / Solidworks).
  • Be able to help build prototype components for testing and validation.
  • Participate in material specifications for all new products.
  • Provide project teams with BOM costs throughout the development of each product.
  • Work with current and new suppliers throughout project development to ensure material costs and timelines stay on target.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced design environment, with the agility to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Participate in design reviews and express personal opinions


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering
  • Must have experience in 3D CAD modeling with knowledge of 3D sketching, prototyping and rendering. Experience in NX, Rhino, AutoCAD and / or Solid Works is a plus.
  • Language skills: English required. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
  • Must be willing to travel for trade shows and various design events. About 3 to 4 times a year.
  • Boating and knowledge of ABYC regulations is a plus.

Education and / or experience:

  • 3 years minimum experience in the maritime industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering
  • Good mechanical and / or electromechanical understanding with the ability to design around standard engineering components and manufacturing requirements.

Language skills: Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write straightforward correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in individual situations and in small groups to clients, clients and other employees in the organization.

The ability to reason: Ability to apply common sense understanding to execute instructions provided in written, oral or diagrammatic form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical requirements: Normal sitting and standing office environment.

Qualifications / working conditions:

Typical 10 hour work days, 4 day work week, M-Thursday, ready to work overtime as needed. Product testing on water may be required.
