Job title: Interior designer

Job Purpose: The Designer works closely with the Senior and Principal Designer to translate their aesthetic vision into client presentations and embody the studio culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Design:

  • Research and develop furniture plans, custom furnishing designs and material schemes that match the client’s aesthetic and functional goals and budget.

  • Assist senior designers in the design and development of all projects; create drawings, boards, fabric diagrams and anything relevant for client presentations

  • Research and source furniture, lighting, fabrics, wallpapers and interior finishes within project budget and aesthetics

  • Manage item specifications and construction schedules with accurate product information for all furniture, plumbing, appliances, lighting and finishes

  • Coordinate vendor and installer site visits, workshop visits and in-person meetings to ensure successful completion of project deliverables.

  • Ensure the project file is updated with all item tear-off sheets, customization notes, specs, and drawings

  • Interface with the project manager to manage the process of shipping items (from supplier to warehouse), meet project deadlines

Administrative responsibilities:

  • Oversees multiple deadlines, project scopes and aesthetics simultaneously.

  • Manage accurate and timely pricing data on customer orders and purchase orders.

  • Oversee accurate lists of project action items in the studio’s project management system.

Staff/Human Resources Responsibilities:

  • Work effectively with junior designers and interns on multiple projects; demonstrate strong communication skills

  • Participate in the training, development and review of junior designers and interns

  • Participates in all studio culture building initiatives

Business development:

  • Assist with photoshoot coordination, sourcing, styling and on-site facilitation, as delegated by the Lead Designer

  • Maintain contacts and relationships with existing suppliers and develop new ones.

  • Attend industry events, trade shows and vernissages

Customer management:

  • Attend client meetings

  • Responsible for approving customer order documents and supplier purchase order prior to customer and supplier submission.

  • Manage sales order design and pricing package submission

  • Oversee the planning and coordination of the project installation

  • Oversee accurate design hours and within budget for self

  • Maintain and develop professional relationships with customers and suppliers

  • Create solutions and communicate with clients and colleagues in a timely manner and in the appropriate tone of studio culture.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • Diploma in Interior Design

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in interior design

  • Provide high-level innovative design concepts

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including space planning, handwriting and digital writing

  • Extensive experience in the selection and specification of lighting, furnishings, hardware, flooring/windows, materials and finishes.

  • Experience in managing purchases and budgets

  • Excellent command of AutoCAD, Sketchup, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

  • Work under pressure, produce deliverables and meet deadlines

  • Experience managing design staff within project teams

Rate of pay: Employee with benefits. Annual salary according to experience to be determined.

Advantages: 10 days of paid vacation per year and the office is closed between Christmas and New Year; access, with contributions, to company health insurance, dental and vision insurance, 401k with matching employer, benefits and Summer Fridays.

Covid work protocol: Since February 2022, each member of the office has been working in the office from Monday to Thursday and remotely on Friday. The office is following social distancing guidelines, monitoring health conditions and wearing PPE.
