Architectural Designer / Project Architect – New York, NY, US | Works

Jessica Schuster design is looking for an Architectural Designer with experience in hotel design. Our work environment is energetic, friendly and supportive. The designer / architect shall provide a visual representation of the concept and communicate orally and visually the objectives of the lead designer. The designer will be responsible for producing drawings and coordinating with the design team to turn SDs into CDs and will be responsible for managing all project related tasks, client meetings and contractor coordination working directly with the lead designer and the project design director, in collaboration with fellow studio members, clients, consultants and artisans. You will be working from our offices in New York, but you may need to travel for occasional site visits.

Responsibilities include participation in all phases of the design process, such as:

  • Work with the Director, Senior Designer or Senior Design Director on conceptual designs, presentations and production.

  • Oversee project data collection and research; perform moderately complex to advanced code-specific calculations.

  • Knowledge of design processes and building codes. Help manage the design process and supervise junior designers.

  • Produce graphic presentations, 3D renderings, physical models and presentation drawings as needed by the project.

  • Solve design problems with creative and practical solutions; prepare complete designs from general drawings and instructions.

  • Ability to independently coordinate consultants, manufacturers, suppliers and regulators to achieve overall project goals. Report progress to lead designer / lead design director.

  • Perform architectural drafting as directed by the lead designer in accordance with company standards.

  • Contribute to the activities, initiatives and programs of the office.

  • Possess the ability to create complete drawing sets

  • Oversee the production of project documents to accurately represent the project to the client, approval agency and contractor with sufficient detail to facilitate project construction.

  • Perform all construction administration tasks including responding to RFIs, reviewing bids and coordinating responses with consultants.

SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of experience on architectural projects with hospitality experience

  • Must be a self-motivated, self-starter with the ability to problem solve both individually and as part of a project team.

  • Proficiency in 2D / 3D software including Revit, AutoCAD, 3D Studio Max, Sketchup, Photoshop, Rhino and InDesign.

  • Good understanding of construction materials and techniques.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple or rapid projects.

  • Strong graphics and visualization skills to communicate design ideas.

  • Bachelor of Architecture.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.

  • Holds all legal permits and visas required to work in the United States

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and / or simultaneous deadlines.
