Sling TV has been around for a few years now and provides one of the best live TV services in the US, combining great prices with lots of customization options and an excellent channel selection.
Of the live TV services currently available in the United States, Sling TV is one of the most affordable. However, what sets it apart is the ability to mix and match the main bundles with the so-called Sling Extras.
History of Sling TV
Sling TV was launched in 2015 in the United States and Puerto Rico. Over the years, the service has grown in popularity and had nearly 2.5 million users as of January 2022.
Given its success so far, Sling TV continues to stick to its business model, giving people a cheaper basic package and allowing everyone to get the extra channels they want.
What Sling TV has to offer
Sling TV has three base plans: Orange, Blue, and Orange & Blue, a combination of the two.
Sling Orange costs $35 per month and has over 30 channels including ESPN, CNN, HGTV, Food Network, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and BET. The package includes 50 hours of DVD storage and over 20,000 on-demand movies and shows. However, you can only stream content to one device at a time.
Sling Blue costs $35 per month and offers over 40 channels, including BBC America, Bravo, E!, Fox, FS1, FX, and NBC, to name a few. Subscribers get 50 hours of DVR storage and over 30,000 on-demand movies and shows. Sling Blue also offers three simultaneous streams per account.
Orange & Blue is the package that includes all the channels of the packages mentioned above and all the advantages. The service costs $50 per month.
We’re going to suggest you go for the latter as it’s a comprehensive collection and you’ll get more for your money.
Sling TV Customization
When it comes to customization options, Sling TV is king. There are so many options here that we will have to break them down to discuss them properly.
Being able to record shows and movies from live TV to watch later is a big plus. Whichever base plan you chose at the start, you get 50 hours of storage space. If you want to upgrade to 200 hours of DVR storage space, you’ll need to shell out an additional $5 every month.
Sling TV Extras are bundles you might like to add to your subscription. Each of them will cost a specific amount, depending on what they have to offer.
AMC+ offers five channels, namely AMC+, Shudder, Sundance Now, and IFC Films Unlimited, and costs $7 per month.
Additional Heartland has 13 networks, including Outdoor Channel and Destination America. It costs $6 per month.
extra hollywood offers 15 channels like Reelz and Sundance TV and costs $6 per month.
Lifestyle supplement includes 10 channels like VH1, Hallmark Drama, Hallmark Channel, and FYI, and costs $6 per month.
Additional News offers networks like BBC World News, NewsMax and HLN, plus 10 other channels, and costs $6 per month.
Supplementary Comedy has 13 channels such as MTV, Revolt, Paramount Network and CMT for $6 per month.
sports supplement has 20 channels like MLB Network, NHL Network, ESPNews, Tennis Channel, and NBA TV, and costs $11 per month.
Additional children has seven channels like Disney Jr. and TeenNick for $6 a month.
There are also a few packs. For example, 4 Additional offer brought Kids Extra, Comedy Extra, News Extra, and Lifestyle supplement for $13 per month.
Total TV offer, for its part, costs $27 per month and includes all other plans and features, including Cloud DVR.
Note that the number of channels mentioned above is available for the Orange & Bleu package. Otherwise, if you opt for one of the other options, you will have a different set of additional channels. The price, however, remains the same.
Sling TV also allows subscribers to add over 30 premium channels to the subscription.

Is Sling TV worth it?
Sling TV is one of the most versatile platforms we’ve seen. When we think of live TV services, we think of platforms that offer us more than just cable TV. One of the most important things is the ability to customize the subscription so that we only pay for what we watch and the channels we like.
Of all the live TV services in the market today, Sling TV is the one that really stands out and brings it to users all over the world. Sling TV is truly a service you can tweak as you see fit, from cheap basic packages to moderately priced topic-centric channel collections.
Plus, it’s super affordable. If you choose the Orange & Blue package and add the Total TV Deal, which includes additional Cloud DVR storage space and smaller channel packs, you get up to $77 per month. Throw in a few premiums on top of that, and you’re still a step away from what you’d pay for cable.
All in all, choosing Sling TV is a great idea, and we think you’ll like what they have to offer too. Hulu + Live TV is another fantastic service you can consider when cutting the cord.
