faq
Q: How do I use the source?
A: Download the .zip, open Flex, File->Import->Flex Project. If that’s not 100% clear, watch this:
Q: Where can I download just Papervision3D
A: I include the source to Papervision3D with each project, but if you want to download the .zip or .swc for yourself you can find it here:
http://code.google.com/p/papervision3d/downloads/list
Q: What version of flash player do these require?
A: Flash Player 9.
Q: What if I don’t use Flex?
A: These examples are made with Flex so importing back into Flex will always be the easiest approach. That being said, these examples will work with Flash, FlashDevelop, and FDT as it’s just ActionScript 3 referencing the Papervision3D library. Just copy and paste the code and set up your library. If I get around to it, I’ll make tutorials showing the fastest ways to do just that.
Q: What version of Papervision3D are these examples?
A: 2.0. Most likely, the latest version.
Q: What is a .swc?
A: I use a Papervision3D.swc and header.swc (and sometimes others) in all of the project .zips. In Flex, look under Project -> Properties -> ActionScript Build Path -> Library Path and you’ll see that “lib” is a “swc folder”. So any .swcs you drop in there are available to be used in the project. More info on .swcs:
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=compilers_30.html
Q: What is that headerContainer() I see everywhere?
A: It’s part of the header.swc in the lib folder. All it does is let me add the header text you see in some of the examples.
Q: What is BasicView?
A: http://pv3d.org/2008/12/06/what-is-basicview/
Q: Does this work with the new 3d features in Flash CS4/flash player 10?
A: Papervision3D is based on ActionScript 3 targeted for Flash Player 9. All the examples will still work in Flash Player 10. A new version of Papervision3D utilizing the updated features in Flash Player 10 is in the very early stages of development, but we have no estimate and make no guarantees as to when it will be ready and available to the public.
